Aldham Olde Tyme Rallye 2006

This years Aldham Old Tyme Rally was hot and dry, which makes a change as it is normally cold and wet, especially when it is time to pack up on Sunday so this was a nice change

Once again there were a large number of exhibitors and a large Military presence including some huge trucks. Sunday saw what may be a record number of Vintage and Classic Cars and Motorbikes.

The auction on Saturday afternoon had an enormous number of lots although nothing took my fancy however there were one or two good buys to be had on the Rally Field.

We all had an enjoyable and relaxing weekend despite the hot weather, once again our hosts the North East Essex Tractor & Engine Club were very well organised for which we were grateful.

There was a good variety of engines with one or two unusual ones, here are some of the sites around the Rally Field.

A very tidy 1910 1.75hp Amanco "Chore Boy" owned by J Chiles of Colchester. This is a 1939 approx 3hp Bradford horizontal enclosed crank engine owned by Bill Parmenter form Stanway. A lovely display is this 1926 7hp Crossley Petrol Paraffin engine driving a Lister Dynamo owned by R Simpson from Hockley. A rare 1914 1.5hp Sparta-Economy owned by Matt Chiles from Colchester.

A lovely exhibit is this 1935 1.5hp Ruston PB driving a Circa 1900 "Bakers" Grain Dresser owned by R Perkins from Braintree. Here is Adam Munson's 1922 1.5hp International M driving a Lister H2 Well Pump, Adam is from Stanway. A lovely little 1915 1.5hp Jumbo owned by Arthur Rose from Ipswich This is a 1946 1.5hp Lister D driving a Godwin twin plunger Pump owned by John Southall from Willisham.

A very original 1955 6hp Lister CS Diesel driving a Broomwade Compressor owned by G Read from Raleigh. This is a 1932 3hp Petter M owned by S Meadows form Chelmsford. Another Petter M, this is a 1927 5hp owned by Mick Bugg from Ipswich. A very rare engine is this 1923 4hp Ransomes "Wizard" built by Ransomes Simms & Jeffries in Ipswich. This is owned by Ernie Eagle and C Armour from Holton St Mary.

Another view of this old and rare Paraffin engine. This is Paul Ewers 1938 13/14hp Ruston Hornsby 2XHR Paul has now rigged up a small Donkey engine to start the beast. A serious piece of cast iron is this 1939 6.5hp Ruston PB driving a nice Amanco Pump owned by Richard Westwood from Ipswich. A 1923 2.5hp Canadian Witte DS. This used to drive a drag saw hence the angle of the hopper. This is owned by G Cooper from Corby.

A nice 1.5hp Wolseley WD8 driving an Argosey Pump owned by N Catlin from Tiptree. This is a view along one of the rows of Motorcycles. And a nice turnout of Commercial vehicles. One of the Military vehicles was this huge Antar load carrier.

This is an Armoured personnel carrier. And a 1955 Daimler Ferret A Huge Leyland Breakdown Truck. The convoy going in to the grand ring.

And lastly a Tank.
