Farm Machinery Preservation Society Vintage Rally 2006

This year we had a change of venue to the Grounds of Long Melford Hall which was a superb setting.

This is our local Club's Rally and is always a good event with a vast range of Military, vintage cars, motorcycles tractors and a good turn out of Steam Engines. Entries of Stationary Engines were up a bit this year but we did have a few no shows however there was a good variety to interest everyone.

The weather was excellent this year and once again, we had a good display of working exhibits, an excellent Rally for both exhibitors and public.

Here are some of the sights around the Rally.

This was a 1915 Amanco "Three Mule Team" Owned by L Chapman from Bocking Here is a 1940 3hp Avon Dragsaw, a superb working exhibit demonstrated by Richard Westwood from Ipswich. A rare 1927 2.5hp Blackstone "No Trouble" engine driving a Tange pump owned by Tom Fisher from Arlesford. And here is a 1939 Coventry Climax FSM Fire Pump owned by R Perkins from Braintree.

This is a very interesting 6hp Crossley Gas engine owned by Alex Walford from Colchester. Used in the 1920s for thermodynamics experiments. This is a 1916 1.5hp Fairbanks Morse Z type owned by Adam Munson from Stanway, this was awarded the trophy for "Best restored engine on the Rally field". This is a 1907 1hp Gardner No 1 engine in original "working cloths" owned by David Seeley from Braintree. A nicely restored 1919 1.7hp Ingico owned by Ivan Drake from Bacton.

A very nice 1948 1,5hp Lister D driving a Cake Mill owned by T O'Sullivan from S.Woodham Ferrers. Another Lister, this one is a 1936 2hp Lister A driving a Lister HP2 pump owned and restored by T&L Adams from Tiptree. Yet another Lister, this one is 1929 6hp Lister L owned by D Ollet from Tolleshunt Major. This excellent working display featuring a radiator cooled Lister D won a trophy for Mark Earey from Great Yeldham.

Another Lister A, this was built in 1930 and rated at 3hp, seen here driving a Bamford oil cake breaker. This is owned by Tim Edwards from Sible Heddingham. This is Paul Ewers' 1929 2.5hp Lister A tank cooled engine driving a Lister no 2 gear pump. Paul is from High Garrett and won best Lister displayed by a FMPS member with this exhibit. A Ruston Hornsby PB in "working clothes" driving a corn mill. And this is Paul Ewers' 13-14hp Ruston Hornsby 2XHR Diesel.

This is just a few of the buses and commercial vehicles shown at the Rally. There was even a lovely display of vintage bicycles. This is just a few of the large number of Motorcycle exhibits. Even the "Harley Davidson boys" turned up in force.

Here is a very interesting tractor, a 1923 12hp Lanz HL 12 This is a 1917 Sanderson & Mills tractor owned by Gerald Seeley of Woolpit. Not often you see an Amphibious Jeep, well here is one. Here is an interesting vehicle, a 1942 Fordson WOA2 staff car, made by Ford of Dagenham.

This is a GMC CCKW short wheelbase cargo lorry fitted with a machine gun mount. A few more of the large number of Military exhibits. And some more. And a nice selection of Willys Jeeps

This is a Buick Staff car which was used in the film "Pearl Harbour". There was also a large number of Living Vans Here is the unusual Beer Tent So you could sit outside the Beer tent on Saturday evening with a pint of beer listening to the Jazz band, wonderful.
