Farm Machinery Preservation Society Vintage Rally 2005

This is our local Club's Rally and is always a good event with a vast range of vintage machinery etc. to look at. Entries of Stationary Engines were again a little down this year (However out of around ten no shows six got a message to us) but we still had nearly 60 on the Sunday.

The weather was reasonably kind to us this year and the General Public attendance was good, and once again, we had a good display of working exhibits.

Again, we had a large number of military entries this year including again, a complete and working field Kitchen, see some of the pics below.

As this was a local Rally, it is difficult to find engines that I have not already photographed this year and out of those I took, it looks as though it has turned out to be a bit of an Amanco/Lister Rally but here are some engines and sights from the weekend.

This was a 1915 Amanco "Three Mule Team" Owned by L Chapman from Bocking This is a 1925 1.75hp Amanco "Chore Boy" owned by M Brown from Polegate East Sussex Another very nice Amanco is this 2.5hp "Hired Man" driving an Amanco pump owned by Richard Westwood from Ipswich. And Richard's other Amanco is this massive 6hp model driving a Tangye Pump.

Just to complete the gallery of Amancos at the Rally, here is a picture of my own "Hired Man" driving a Lister H1 pump. A very original 1907 Gardner No 1 owned by The Seeley brothers from Woolpit This is a trailer mounted 1930 1.5 Lister D driving a generator owned by J Strutt from Danbury Another Genset, this is a Lister A driving a Lancashire Crypto generator owned by N Catling from Tiptree.

Yet another !! this is a Rad cooled Lister D driving an Alco 110V generator owned by John Southhall from Willisham. A superb exhibit is the Lister A driving a Cley Cornmill owned by D Firmin from S Woodham Ferrers One more Lister is this tank cooled "B" driving a Blake pump, I think owned by G Reed from Raleigh. This is a superbly restored 1929 Petter S 5hp diesel driving a Climax No 2 Water Pump owned by Tom Fisher from Arlesford. This won "Best restored engine"

And another very nice Petter is this 1937 M driving a 1922 Crompton 50V house lighting set, this is owned by Adam Munson from Stanway. Here is the control board from the Crompton, a very nice restoration. A very nice 1926 4hp Warwick Eagle owned by R Simson from Hockley A view of just a few of the entry of over 60 tractors.

This was Suzy's Field kitchen, and some of the other Military Vehicles. She spent time cooking breakfast each day for the military exhibitors as well as keeping a tea urn on the go permanently, a great exhibit. There was plenty of Steam at the Rally Here is a picture of some of the Rally Gang warming themselves by a Showmans engine....it was a bit nippy. Even at the end of the Rally, there is still work to do, here is my Wife Jan handing out the brass plaques.
