Henham Steam Rally 2004

This year the Rally moved to Benacre Park on the A12 a few miles further toward Lowestoft than the Henham Estate and in many ways was a similar location to Henham with a lovely country estate outlook which made for very pleasant surroundings for the Rally.

We had quite good weather, good organisation and all in all it was a very enjoyable weekend.

The Stationary engines were in one of three compounds depending on the size of the engine and I have to say the size of the entry was once again impressive, 111 were booked in, and I reckon they all turned up, here are a few that caught my eye (and camera) that I think are new to this years picturecollection.

This is a 2hp c1917 Air cooled Amanco "Hired Man" driving a Lister H1 shallow well pump displayed by D Pittock from Stowmarket. I make no excuses for taking another picture of this lovely old 1914 Blackstone oil engine owned by Norman Wasteney from Chelmsford. Another Blackstone, this time a 1912 7hp Oil Engine displayed by S Last of Woodbridge. One more Blackstone, this is a 1909 model displayed by D Monk from Chelmsford.

I don't know much about this engine other than it is a vertical Crossley Otto engine. It turned up on the back of a pickup truck, I think along with the big V12 Diesel (see the Strumpshaw report earlier this year) An unusual engine is this 1909 5hp Galloway "Round Rod" displayed by D Culley from Wroxham. The other engine on the back of the pickup was a very nice original Gardner. I did not see it run however. A 1905 Heinrici Hot Air engine displayed by G Barber from Halesworth.

This is an 1913 8hp petrol paraffin International Famous displayed by P Neave from Smallborough. A 1950 Lister D driving a Sheep Shearing attachment displayed by A Fuller from Norwich . This is a Lister CS 5/1 Diesel originally used to drive a concrete mixer. It is displayed here driving a Lister deep Well pump by C Leech from Brampton Another Lister D, this one is a 1.5hp DK petrol paraffin model driving a 1930 Liner no 3 Sludge pump owned by Dave Cragie from Southwold.

A 1927 Lister A tank cooled engine drivng a domestic pump displayed by D Luckings from Norwich. An interesting and unusual display is this Millars Double Sludge pump outfit. I did mean to find more info on this but never got round to it, the number was a P Rule from Gt. Yarmouth. A 1930 National Oil engine displayed by R Watling from Gt. Glemham. A very nice 5hp Petter M driving a Climax pump owned by K Savage from Beccles.

This as a superb example of a 5hp 1929 Petter S surface Ignition Oil engine owned by Tom Fisher from Colchester. And finally, this very nicely restored 1938 .5hp Villiers Marvil displayed by P Vincent from Bookham
